Aberporth Race 2012

What a fabulous day, great weather, great racing and great support!

The sea was quite rough and a mixture of rowing and surfing was required. This made for some fun racing with positions continually changing as teams caught the waves.

New Quay seemed to handle the tricky conditions better than others and took first place in the Seniors, Ladies, Novice, Girls U16′s and Mixed Races.

Of course our regatta wouldn’t have been such a success if it wasn’t for all the fantastic support we had on the day. A massive thank you to all the safety boat crew, all the helpers in the marque, Dai Ogilvie and Steve Harries (race commentary), Gily Llewelyn (photography), Howard & Ryan (time keeping), our race sponsors, our fantastic families and friends aka Green Army and Sue & Terry McGonigle  for our fantastic new club banner.

Well done to all teams that took part and thank you for supporting our event, hopefully see you all again next year!

Well done everybody today, was a real team effort! Injuries, changed teams, people rowing in unfamiliar positions, rough conditions, Gaz only having one leg (see pics) and all teams still managed excellent results. Confirmed results to follow soon.

The Dolwen Men team had to work hard in tricky conditions to hold off a New Quay team who pushed them all the way. Going around the final buoy, the two teams were neck and neck but Aberporth managed to pull away on the final straight and claim their second league win in a row.

In the Novice race, four new members who have only been rowing for a couple of weeks, managed to battle their way around the choppy course and finish third overall and first in the Novice Ladies class.

In the Ladies race Aberporth Tilly Ladies finished fourth in a very strong field that saw Wisemans Bridge take first place.

In the final race of the day, Aberporth Tilly Whim Mixed team started poorly but worked their way through the field to finished third out of nineteen.

Well done to all 6 Aberporth teams who competed, Pembrokeshire Yatch Club Rowing Team for an excellent event and of course our Green Army supporters!
